WHY CHOOSE MOTO PATAGONIA?
Excellent question! Our main goal at Moto Patagonia is to provide you with an Amazing Moto Travel Experience. We are locals on the ground year-round here in Patagonia. With our focus on smaller groups and first-hand knowledge, we are able to offer a truly unique tour. We want to share Patagonia with you. Our tours are designed to offer the best Patagonia has to offer, on and off the bike.
THERE ARE CERTAIN PLACES THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN CHILEAN PATAGONIA THAT ARE NOT LISTED IN YOUR TOURS. CAN YOU ORGANIZE A CUSTOM TRIP FOR ME?
Absolutely. Simply send us an email indicating where you would like to go and your potential travel dates, and we will work with you to build an itinerary that covers every destination you'd like to see.
HOW CAN I KNOW IF MY RIDING ABILITIES ARE ADEQUATE FOR A TRIP LIKE THIS?
Our tour descriptions give a difficulty rating and provide a short breakdown of road conditions. All of our tours have sections of dirt roads and broken pavement. If you don't have experience riding in those conditions, we would be concerned that your trip would not be as enjoyable for you as we would hope. A difficulty rating of 1 indicates that the tour is suitable for anyone with riding experience. A rating of 2 is for slightly more advanced riders who have some experience in riding on unpaved roads. Rating 3 indicates the trip contains long sections of unpaved roads but no major challenges. Tours designated with a difficulty level 4 will contain several long, off-pavement sections and some challenging paths to navigate and is for seasoned riders only. Any potential tour with a difficulty rating of 5 will contain many treacherous paths and should be attempted only by the most experienced adventure riders.
I WOULD LOVE TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE THROUGH PATAGONIA, BUT I WOULD RATHER GO EXPLORE ON MY OWN. DO YOU OFFER MOTORCYCLE RENTALS SEPARATE FROM YOUR GUIDED TOURS?
Yes, we offer rentals. Contact us for availability. Remember, Northern Hemisphere winter is our summer and high season.
WHAT KIND OF ACCOMMODATIONS CAN WE EXPECT ON YOUR OVERNIGHT TOURS?
We strive to offer the best lodging options available. As a general rule, the food and lodging we secure is the best available in the areas we travel. Depending on each individual trip, we will stay in a combination of hotels, hostels, lodges and cabins. Most meals will be provided by local restaurants we encounter on our trip.
I AM GETTING PACKED UP FOR MY TRIP. WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING AND WHAT DO YOU PROVIDE?
Because of the climate and geography of Patagonia, weather can vary greatly over the course of your tour. We suggest bringing clothing for all types of weather - from cold and rainy to hot and sunny. Bring layered clothing to keep warm and rain gear to keep dry in case the weather doesn't cooperate with us. The bike rentals include a helmet and gloves. For longer tours, we suggest that you bring your own helmet and riding gear (i.e. jacket, pants, boots, etc). Also things like sunglasses, small day packs and neck scarfs are a good idea. We encourage you to bring cameras, GoPros, etc.
WHAT KIND OF LICENSE DO I NEED TO RIDE LEGALLY IN CHILE?
As a tourist, you are required to have a valid motorcycle license from your home country.
I AM PRONE TO GETTING ALTITUDE SICKNESS. ARE WE GOING TO BE RIDING AT HIGH ALTITUDES?
Here in southern Chile, we will not be riding in any extreme altitudes.
MY PARTNER AND I WOULD LOVE TO COME ON ONE OF YOUR TOURS, BUT ONLY ONE OF US IS AN EXPERIENCED RIDER. CAN WE RIDE TWO-UP, AND IF SO, WHAT IS THE COST OF THAT?
We can certainly accommodate you. Send us an email, and we'll gladly discuss options and costs with you.
I AM TRAVELING THROUGH CHILE WITH A RENTAL CAR AND OTHER LUGGAGE THAT I DO NOT WANT TO CARRY ON MY MOTORCYCLE. DO YOU HAVE A SECURE PARKING AND STORAGE FACILITY?
We have a secure storage facility in Puerto Varas and secure parking isn't a problem. Just let us know in advance if you need us to arrange parking for you.
DO I NEED TO PAY A DEPOSIT TO GUARANTEE MY RESERVATION?
We require a 50% deposit when booking a tour or rental. The remaining balance is due upon departure from Puerto Varas and can be paid in major credit card. We offer a secure gateway using PayPal for prepayment of the deposit.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
We allow cancellations only 270 days prior to your tour or rental start date. We will refund your entire deposit any time before that 270 day period prior to the tour or rental start date. Moto Patagonia is not responsible for any fees associated with a refund through PayPal or any payment system.
Our tours here in Patagonia involve a great deal of logistics and pre-planning due to the remote areas we travel and limited top quality accommodations, along with reservations specific to each tour that we ourselves have dead lines to adhere to should we have to cancel. We strongly suggest buying travel insurance in case of a medical emergency or should you have to cancel due to a family emergency, or encounter flight cancellations or departure delays. You can find a link and info about travel insurance for medical emergency coverage on the Horizons Unlimited website here, http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/links/medical-insurance.

WILL EVERYTHING GO AS PLANNED ON YOUR TOURS?
Adventure riding is a calculated mix of risk vs reward and sometimes dumb luck. While we will certainly make our best effort to keep our tours on track and avoid most potential travel issues, we cannot guarantee that every trip will go exactly as planned every time. There are a lot of "moving parts" when it comes to organizing adventure tours, and, on occasion, there may be a few hiccups. Route changes and unscheduled stops are sometimes a reality of such a grand adventure. However, most of our planning time has been spent in minimizing the effects of any setbacks we might encounter. We've thought of everything, ranging from extensive motorcycle maintenance to ensure maximum reliability, to seasonal planning to minimize the chance of encountering severe weather conditions. If we do encounter an issue on your trip, we would ask that you try to stay positive and patient while we resolve it. Adventure riding is a way of life and sometimes it requires us to dig deep.
WHAT LANGUAGES DO YOU SPEAK?
We speak SPANISH and ENGLISH.
WHAT IS YOUR DIFFICULTY RATING FOR THE TOURS?
We rate our tours on a 1 through 5 scale, with a 1 indicating clean, paved roads and shorter riding days and a 5 indicating all dirt roads and longer riding days. The ratings also factor in other details, such as road dust and traffic on the routes. None of our tours are dangerous or impassable.
I ENJOY AN OCCASIONAL BEER OR GLASS OF WINE WITH DINNER. WHAT IS YOUR POLICY REGARDING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES?
Chile has a zero tolerance law in regards to riding or driving after drinking, this means 0% on the blow test if stopped the Police. During lunch stops and rest stops you cannot drink any alcoholic beverages. At the end of the riding day is the best time to kick back, relax and have a drink.
WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept major credit cards and PayPal.
WHAT IS YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT SYSTEM?
We require a security deposit for any damage that may occur to the motorcycle. Before departure of the tour the security deposit must be paid. It is fully refundable once the tour is finished with no damage to the motorcycle. The deposit varies as to motorcycle chosen.
