RIDING ITINERARY
DAY 1
PUERTO VARAS TO HORNOPIREN - 226 km
Day one of the tour includes spending the morning prepping the bikes and having a meeting to cover the route and safety. After we are all set we will take a back road around the Reloncaví Estuary to meet up with the Carretera Austral and ride due south to the small coastal town of Hornopirén. This is a great way to ease into the splendor of Patagonia.
DAY 2
HORNOPIREN TO LAGO YELCHO - 237 km
In Hornopirén we will board a ferry for a five hour trip south along the coast. We will sail through a beautiful fjord bordering the northern section of Parque Pumalín and arrive at the port of Caleta Gonzalo. From there, we will ride through Parque Pumalín, where we will have an opportunity to see 3000 year old, giant Alerce trees. From there we will ride to Lago Yelcho.
DAY 3
LAGO YELCHO TO COYHAIQUE - 347 km
This day offers diverse and beautiful riding. We will ride to Puyuhuapi and into Parque Nacional Queulat—just south of town— to see the Queulat Hanging Glacier. The glacier sits atop a rocky cliff with waterfalls flowing down into the lake below. It’s a must-see sight and worth the stop. After this we will continue our ride through a remote and long stretch of the Carretera Austral down to the main city of Coyhaique.
DAY 4
COYHAIQUE TO PUERTO GUADAL - 273 km
From Coyhaique we will ride into the Reserva Nacional Cerro Castillo. This impressive rock formation will be visible off to the west, high in the mountains above the Carretera Austral. After passing Cerro Castillo, we will ride into a remote and long stretch of road to reach the Marble Caves which have been carved out from thousands of years of waves washing against them. With stunning blue colors reflecting from the water, they are not to be missed. Accessed only by boat, we will take a boat tour out to these natural wonders of the Chilean Patagonia.
DAY 5
PUERTO GUADAL TO CHILE CHICO - 120km
This area of the ride is one of the least used and most remote. Its a dirt road section running along the Lago General Carretera heading due east towards Argentina. One of the most beautiful and fun rides and with all day to ride 120km we have plenty of time to enjoy it.
DAY 6
CHILE CHICO TO GOBERNADOR GREGORES - 427 km
Every day is a new adventure on this trip as we ride towards the end of the world. We will cross into Argentian first thing in the morning to start our first day on the famous Ruta 40. Riding through remote stretches of the Patagonian Steppe. We will head south with nothing more than wide open spaces and Guanacos to keep us company. Passing the now famous gas stop in Bajo Caracoles. Ending the day in a traditional Argentine Estancia.
DAY 7
GOBERNADOR GREGORES TO EL CHALTEN - 427 km
Leaving the Estancia early we want to get through the infamous Maldito 73 section of Ruta 40 before the winds start. Riding south towards our destination of El Chalten with hope of clear skies to see Mt Fitz Roy. Heading for the famous towers of Mount Fitz Roy in the small town of El Chaltén. Famous for its hiking and rock climbing, this scenic town is a must stop to experience Fitz Roy and the surrounding area.
DAY 8
EL CHALTEN TO EL CALAFATE - 220 km
The ride from Chaltén to El Calafate is shorter riding day along Ruta 40 which allows us to explore the area more. Stop at the Parador La Leona for a coffee.
DAY 9
EL CALAFATE (REST DAY) - 140 km
This is a special rest day as we get to visit the Perito Moreno Glacier National Park and spend the whole day inside the park viewing the Glacier and surrounding area. We will have lunch at the base of the viewing platforms and soak in the surrounding natural area.
DAY 10
EL CALAFATE TO CERRO SOMBRERRO - 467 km
Leaving town on Ruta 40 we will ride across the continent to the town of Rio Gallegos. Where we will stop for fuel and a snack and head due south back into Chile. Once we make the border crossing, we will ride straight to the ferry to cross onto the island of Tierra del Fuego. We will end the day in the hotel on this part of the island to rest and prepare for the last push to Ushuaia the following day.
DAY 11
CERRO SOMBRERO TO USHUAIA - 418 km
Leaving town early we will ride due south on the Chilean side of Tierra del Fuego to reach the border before mid-day. After our border crossing, we will ride into the town of Rio Grande Argentina to a frequently used gas stop for all motorcycle riders to fuel up and take a break. The last push can be windy, and we want to get up and over Garibaldi Pass in the afternoon to drop down to the Beagle Channel and the town of Ushuaia.
DAY 12
USHUAIA (REST DAY)
After all the riding we have done and all the borders and ferries its time to rest up in Ushuaia take a minute to soak it all in and relax. This port city is not as small as you may think and we will have plenty of time to get some good food and experience life at the end o the world.
DAY 13
USHUAIA TO PROVINER 439 km
Time to go back into Chile! Riding back north and crossing back into Chile we will go see the King Penguin Colony on the way to our hotel in Porvenir Chile. These Penguins are the second largest Penguin species, and this is a wild and free colony with great viewing areas. The ride from the Penguins to town is one of our favorites and rides along the coast hugging the Strait of Magellan.
DAY 14
PORVINER TO PUERTO NATALES - 440 km
This day we do one of two ways depending on dates, corresponding with the ferry from Porvenir or if we take the ferry at the north side of the Island. Either way this is an entirely paved road riding day. Crossing from the Strait of Magellan north to the small town of Puerto Natales, the gateway to Torres del Paine.
DAY 15
TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK LOOP - 390 km
